April 4th to 8th

We had another great week in fifth grade and we are looking forward to Family Night this Friday at 4 p.m. We hope to see you all there!

This week in fifth grade:

Math
Chapter 8 Test Friday, April 8th!!!!
Nightly review strongly recommended.  Refer to pages 518-521 in your Math textbook for extra support for Chapter 8.

Reading
We will continue working on Literature Circles. It is very important for students to come prepared every Friday with their assigned roles. Literature Circles provide a way for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss and respond to books. Since collaboration is at the heart of this activity, everyone needs to do his/her part.

Grammar
We will finish working with commas and will move on to learning about the  proper usage of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.Test on Comma Use on Thursday.

Writing
We will work on revising and editing Expository/Informative writing for Social Studies. We will review characteristics of Opinion/Persuasive writing and will learn about the different ways it can be published: essay, letter form, reviews etc.

Social Studies
We will be learning about the founding of Rome and its contribution to humanity.
