March 29th to April 1st

Welcome back Parents and Students!!!!!!!!!!!!

We hope you all had a relaxing holiday and energized to start the last quarter of the school year.

Socials Studies:  We will start our Ancient Rome Unit this quarter.  Students will continue to work on their note taking skills and reviewing of their notes to help them study for quizzes and tests.  Students will also work on perfecting their presentation skills.

Math: We will finish our unit on Fractions, Chapter 8, with Multiplying and Division of Fractions.

 Reading:
We have started our Literature Circles and students have chosen their novel to read for the first month. They must come prepared every Friday with their assigned job to discuss what was read.

Writing
We will continue to write Persuasive 5-paragraph essays. Students will choose a person to persuade about a topic they are passionate about.( teacher, principal, parents). We will continue to focus on improving grammar and this week will review the use of commas when writing.
We have begun using the "flipped" classroom strategy where students will watch an instructional video for homework and will work on an activity in class the next day. Students are expected to take notes on these videos.

PIZZA LUNCH REWARD – The students whose parents came to the presentation on March 10 are invited to come to the Conference Room (second floor of the administrative building)

EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON –The winners of the annual March Read-a-Thon will be going out to Chilli’s for lunch this Friday, courtesy on the DPTO. The winners are:

EARTH DAY ASSEMBLY – There will be an assembly on Friday, April 1 @ 10:30 am to celebrate Earth.

LOCAL SPELING BEE – We will be participating in the Local Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 2 at the International School in Tegucigalpa! Ms. Amy Suhr will be representing the school as a caller.  

NUESTROS PEQUEÑOS HERMANOS BAKE SALE – NPH (the school’s community service club) will be having a bake sale on Friday, April 1. Delicious baked goods will be sold during snack and lunch. Do not forget to bring money.

FAMILY NIGHT: The DPTO invites you to its annual family and movie night!



For Grades 9-12:
CAREER DAY: We will be having Career Day here in school on Wednesday, April 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We have invited several professionals from our Discovery School community as well from the outside, to come to share with our students their experience and thoughts about the career they chose to pursue. Grades 9th through 12th and all parents are invited to attend.

ANTIVIRUS LICENSES - We are renewing the Antivirus software license agreement with ESET Antivirus that the school has used for the last 4 years. If you would like to get a license for your personal computer(s), please come to Mr. Cesar’s office to sign a sheet where you agree to have the amount of $25.70 per license deducted from your payroll. These licenses are purchased for a period of 2 years.

Report cards will go home on Friday.
Students' progress for this quarter has already been shared with them.  If parents have any questions regarding Math, Socials and Science please contact Ms. Linh.  If there are questions for English (Reading, Writing., Spelling..) please contact Ms. Nydia.

Please don't forget to join SeeSaw app to see your child's digital portfolio. They will happily tell you about the work samples they chose to keep in their portfolio or you can listen to their recording audio with each sample.

Students have worked hard this term and deserve a long break.

THE ALL SCHOOL PICTURE WILL BE TAKEN MARCH 15, 2016 AT 8:10 AM 
ALSO, FROM 8:30 AM TO 10:00 AM AT THE INFORMATION CENTER WILL BE RETAKE PICTURE DAY, ONLY FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT MISSED THE INDIVIDUAL PICTURE FOR THE YEARBOOK. MRS. GABY CHAVEZ WILL BE TAKING THE CHILDREN INDIVIDUALLY.
