SEPTEMBER 7-11

This coming week will be a busy one because...

1. Mid-term grade will be sent home on Friday.

2. Friday our class will be enjoying a typical Honduran breakfast potluck and we need parent's help!  If each parent can please prepare or buy a small dish to be brought in on Friday so all the students can enjoy the different Honduran foods.  Grade 5 has 20  students in total.   Parents are also invited to join in the celebration that day. This is the list of things students agreed to bring in next Friday:

Please remember students will be dismissed at 11:45am on Friday.'

We will continue to work on reading Misty of Chincoteague and encourage students to read for a few minutes during the holiday and practice the reading strategies learned in class. Reading daily for a few minutes helps students become better readers AND writers.

Students will also read independently a book of their choice. An activity will accompany their independent novel.  Students will start keeping a Reading Log where they will record their nightly readings at home.  Parents will need to initial the reading log each night to confirm students are actively reading.  A minimum of 15-20 minutes is recommended.  The longer the better.  The goal is to enhance student's enjoyment of reading.  This will greatly increase if parents sit with their child and listen to them read or read with them.

We will continue to work on writing a summary using different strategies and learn about when to add new paragraphs in our writing pieces.
